How Leadership Changed My Life for the Better

Being a mum at home managing a household is not a simple task; it's an exhibition of leadership. You possess a broad range of leadership skills that are transferable to leading successful teams in a professional setting with skills that will enrich every aspect of your life!

I never realised how hard it would be to become a young female boss! It came with challenges I never realised were so very much alive and so very brutal in the workplace.

I rapidly realised that in order to build resilience, you had to get knocked down several times and be strong enough to get back up! Resilience cannot be learnt through online courses or books, unfortunately it has to be felt and put into practice in real time.  Being knocked down is not a sign of weakness; when you recover from that fall, you will become incredibly resilient, and those who want to keep you down will be the ones who fear you the most when you rise again.

I kept a diary during those tough days, carefully recording how those particular situations made me feel. When I read them back (days, even weeks) after, it seemed a little better each time...I remembered those feelings and I would tell myself to "stay strong and make them wonder how you are still smiling."

Having gone through some very  difficult periods in the early days, my resilience is my biggest achievement. I am continually told:

"Lisa, you have very broad shoulders, I really don't know how you keep going!"

"You are the strongest woman I have met!"

"I am incredibly proud of how much you have overcome and what you have achieved"

Whilst all of these compliments from family, friends, and colleagues are appreciated, I only get back up for myself. I teach my daughters that resilience is the most important trait they can develop as they grow into women.

Resilience boosts confidence.

Confidence creates opportunities.

Opportunities provide skills.

Skills guide you through life to your goal...

Your destination is SUCCESS!

I take pride in being a role model for my daughters, as all mothers do. I teach them that failure is not defined by 'knockdowns' from others; rather, failure occurs when you give up fully and allow those who want you to fail to win. But failure is not in my DNA, and it is definitely not in theirs!

Trust me, overcoming your obstacles will have a huge impact on both your personal and professional lives, and those who led you to fall will keep an eye on you, hoping you don't get back up. But you'll rise up, and they'll be wary of your strength.

Similarly, cling on to people who support you as you grow your skills; they will become your closest friends and strongest allies.

I am the strongest version of myself now, and I have a wide range of skills that make me an excellent female leader. When you have life experiences, use them to better understand your people and pass on your knowledge to help others thrive, just as you have. I am happier, less stressed and more level headed through mastering the art of leadership!

You have heard of Karen Brady right? Go and give her book a read 'Strong Women: The truth about getting to the top'- She is an inspiration to me, and she is to thousands of other women!

Love to you!
